Open up any search engine and enter “John Ling” as your search string, and you will find many, many bright people with the same name as me around the world. You will find a famous writer from Malaysia, a Senior Consultant and Recruiter, and a PhD and speaker on bioethical issues.

Make no mistake. I am not as bright or as famous as them.

However, I am special. I am special because you’re on this page reading about me. Since you are already here, I might as well tell you a little about what I like and what I do for a living.

Over the past 10 years, I have been very lucky to meet really smart people. Some of these people pointed me to the path of entrepreneurship. After two of my own start-ups and three years in the corporate world, I’ve learned that I need to know more in order to be a successful entrepreneur.

Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what
you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.

In 2007, a friend convinced me to take the Master of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Technology (MBET) program at University of Waterloo. The MBET program has put me in contact with some very successful entrepreneurs. After hearing their stories, I’ve come to one conclusion that can be summed up by one quote:
